All The Things You Are! A true jazz monument in every possible way. Not only does this song stand the test of time for improvising, it is stands among the greatest songs composed.
To start, Jerome Kern's ability to harmonize and to intertwine the melody inside so many key centers (5!!) and using basically a II-V harmonic approach to get there, with some twists of course.
Also, the fact that we start in the relative minor key (F minor) of Ab Major, but we really have this MAJOR sound happening inside the tune. This is really wonderful and not something easy to accomplish.
Lastly, the great "extras" especially the wonderful turnaround and let us not forget the classic "diminished" chord capping off the perfect composition.
Classic and wonderful.
