TRAINS! Let me say it again! T-R-A-I-N-S. And this is the Baddest Train of the them all, in my opinion. The Take The A-Train Jazz Guitar Lesson covers some of the coolest harmonic devices that Billy Strayhorn and the Duke himself put into play inside this tune.
Truth be told, this tune came right out of the trash can. Yup, you heard it right. The Trash CAN! Billy himself didn't think the tune was worthy of Duke's band so it got tossed out and a fellow band-mate got it out. The rest is locomotion history.
Now, as I mentioned, Take the A-Train has some fantastic harmonic components, including - NON-RESOLVING Dominates. But it isn't a one trick pony at all.
It has a trick on the bridge that I can show you, but you have to WATCH the video to learn how to blow on this tune in pro fashion.
